Burned car, body found at Furman University in South Carolina

A body was found in a burned car Saturday on the grounds of Furman University in Greenville County, South Carolina. The car was found in the parking lot of the Montague Village, which is an office building on the Furman property, but not on campus. Furman University Police sent a message to students on Saturday at 3 p.m. that read in part: "The Furman University Police and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating a motor vehicle fire that was discovered earlier today on Furman property on Duncan Chapel Road. FUPD and SLED are also conducting a death investigation associated with the fire. At this time, we do not believe the occupant was a student or an employee of Furman University, and there is no known threat to the campus community. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Furman University Police Department at (864) 294-2111, or report anonymously using the LiveSafe app."WYFF News 4 reached out to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Greenville County Coroner's Office on Monday for any updates to the case. The coroner's office said investigators are still working on the case and they are not able to release the victim's name at this time. SLED said it was requested by Furman University Police to investigate a death involving human remains found Saturday morning in a burned car.
