Reds captain Van Dijk entered 2025 as one of three Liverpool stars at risk of departing the club for nothing at the end of the campaign alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In what could have been an absolute nightmare triple blow to Liverpool, the immediate futures of arguably their three best players had been the subject of much debate and discourse this term.
Alexander-Arnold has been linked constantly with Real Madrid, but with the worst case scenario looming large for Reds fans, Salah finally inked a new deal last week to keep him at Anfield until 2027.
In the wake of that announcement, it was reported that skipper Van Dijk's own extension might not be far away, with the player himself admitting ‘progress’ was being made and told a kids question-and-answer event with Cadbury’s that a resolution will soon be found.
Though Alexander-Arnold is thought to be nearing a free move to Real Madrid, Van Dijk hinted that his contract future could be cleared up as early as next week.

Van Dijk has to date played over 300 times for Liverpool, winning a Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, in addition to the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.
He is widely considered to be the best central defender on the planet, and as such his extension will be eagerly anticipated by Liverpool fans across the world.
Though the Reds' unlikely bid for an unprecedented quadruple has been scuppered, they are now within touching distance of the Premier League title.
A 2-1 win over West Ham sees them move 13 points clear of Arsenal in second place, with just 18 points left to play for.
