Craig Doyle's life off-screen with wife Doon and family 'shame' (2024)

Craig Doyle panics as baby climbs This Morning sofa

TV favourite Craig Doyle, known for his engaging presence since the mid-90s on Disney Club, has carved out a successful career in television.

More recently, the Irish host became a household name after daytime favourite This Morning underwent some hosting switch-ups with both Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby stepping down from their presenting roles with the programme.

This meant that there were a number of posts to be filled, with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard taking over as main hosts four days per week, along with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary filling in every Friday.

Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle were then appointed as stand-in hosts during holiday seasons and when otherwise needed, with the pair proving to be a huge hit among fans with their on-screen chemistry.

But now, Craig is taking a side-step away from his Bristolian co-star's shadow and going it alone with a new TV gig, having landed a spot on this year's Celebrity MasterChef.

Of course, with the chitter-chat about Craig cooking up a storm in the iconic BBC kitchen, fans are wondering more about the Irish television personality and what his life looks like away from rolling cameras.

Away from the spotlight, he cherishes family life with his wife Doon and their children. Much like her husband, Doon also hails from Ireland, where the married couple have their established family home.

Born in November 1972 in the serene Glencree, County Wicklow, Doon is said to have been an interior designer before dedicating herself to full-time family commitments. While her husband is very much a spectacle in the public eye, Doon seemingly prefers to keep a low profile.

The Doyles enjoy the best of both worlds with residences in Wicklow and Kew, London, facilitating Craig's appearances on programmes such as This Morning. Back in 2002, the pair who had dated for years before, finally tied the knot.

According to Craig, it was love at first sight when he finally met Doon's gaze while she was working in a gym.

Speaking to RTE previously Craig spoke fondly about their first encounter: "I was home in Ireland just before I started on Tomorrow's World and a mate of mine said to me 'Doyler! Ya gotta meet this bird! I tried my heart out with her but it isn't happening.'

"She was working in the gym part-time before she started college and I went along to the gym. I didn't even have gym gear with me. I had a pair of shorts and a pair of shoes, I looked like a kn*b and I met her and I thought 'holy god!'"

He went on to say: "We were on our third date, the kissing date, and we were in Greystones and we had a drink and we were out walking and as I left, I shook her hand. Complete nerd. She looked at me like I was a real t**t and said 'that was the kissing date. Why didn't you kiss me?' I was scared. I fancied her, you see."

The awkward start didn't hinder their spark, with the couple marking their 20th wedding anniversary two years ago.

Family shame and age shock

Craig and Doon also share four children together, Quinn, 20, Muireann, 19, Milo, 17 and Elsa, 14. Having grown-up children also led to widespread surprise about the Irish TV star's real age, which left many fans in disbelief.

The 53-year-old left This Morning fans stunned as they began to work out he was over half a century old. Fan's at the time wrote: "So I googled Craig. That man is never 52! #ThisMorning," another added: "Idk who this fella is but Google tells me he’s 52! Gonna need your skincare regime please Mr Doyle #ThisMorning."

While a different viewer commented: "Craig Doyle is looking good for 52. Hardly aged at all in 25 years! #ThisMorning."

Meanwhile, away from screens Craig also opened up about his brother, Keith Doyle, who made headlines in the Irish Sun in 2022 for a rather embarrassing reason.

Keith confessed he'd left the immersion on for seven years, exclaiming: "For an Irish person this is literally the worst thing that could ever happen!"

Craig took to Instagram to share his brother's story, posting:"Yes, this is my brother who has brought shame to our family. A sin worthy of excommunication in Ireland. So big it made the papers. 'DID YOU TURN OFF THE IMMERSION?'"

Celebrity MasterChef kicks off tonight on BBC One at 8pm.
